“In a country of exceptional hospitality, this was exceptional”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago We chose this new resort on the basis of our stay the year before at their beach resort at their Indian Ocean Retreat. We were welcomed as if we were returning friends and the staff welcomed us into “their family”. The food was excellent, the view from our cabin overlooking the Mara was awe-inspiring and we had a great time throughout. Of course, the main reason to visit is for the wild-life. The Lodge uses six-wheeled, high, vehicles. These are well-suited to smoothing out the off-road terrain of the Mara. They would not be quite fast enough for the greater distances on-road in the Serengeti but are perfect for the Mara. As Sue said, “In the end, the quality of your guide determines the level of your experience.” Peter was enthusiastic, very knowledgeable about even individual animals on his patch and, of course, possessing the almost uncanny ability of the Masai people to spot animals at incredible distances. Some excursions can be quieter than others, depending entirely upon the movements of the animals. One quiet afternoon was followed by a mind-boggling (long) morning, on which we saw: A lioness just failing to catch a Topi, a gazelle seconds after birth, two white rhino shyly heading into the bush, a cheetah with 5 cubs, a white rhino in the open and two lions having a dispute over a kill. This serves to illustrate how important it is to make as many trips as possible, to maximise your chances to see such sights. We will return, for sure, in the next year or so. CeriLondon London
